Oyo Govt promises to ease traffic gridlock in Ibadan and it's Envrons. Oyo State Government has renewed it's commitment to rapid infrastructural development across the state towards enhancing socioeconomic development of the state.

In line with this commitment, the government has approved partial opening of General Gas Akobo Bridge to ease traffic congestion in the axis.

Correspondent Kunle Ojo reports that baring last minute change, especially unfavourable weather conditions, the General Gas Bridge and Akobo road, will be open to commuters by the end of June.

The assurance was given by the Site Engineer in charge of the project, Olagunju Olalekan, Wednesday when the bridge was temporarily open for road users.

Olagunju said the essence of the temporary opening of the bridge, especially during peak traffic hours on the axis, is to allow road users and commuters in the axis have a feel of what they would be enjoying when the project is finally completed and delivered.

Additionally, he said allowing the road to be used temporarily will also help the earthworks on the bridge have better vehicular compaction, in addition to the compaction earlier done at the site with machines.

Noting that the project is about 80 to 90 percent complete, the engineer said the project was designed to ease the perennial traffic congestion which characterize the axis over the years.

He therefore, appealed to motorists and commuters plying the road to be careful adding that the project was represented initiated yo ease traffic gridlock in the area
