Senate Confirms John Agama As SEC DG and 3 Commissioners

The Nigerian Senate has confirmed John Agama as the Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The upper chamber of the National Assembly also confirmed Samiya Usman, Abimbola Ajomale and Frana Chukuogor as full-time commissioner of SEC.

The confirmation of the nominees followed the consideration of a report by the Senate Committee on capital market during Thursday's plenary. The report was laid and presented by Senator, Osita Izunaso Chairman Senate Committee on Capital Market.
The nominees were confirmed by the Senate after consideration of the report by the Committee on capital market.

In a similar development the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly also confirmed Hon. Kayode Oladele as member, Federal Character Commission (FCC).
The nominee’s confirmation followed the consideration of the Committee on Federal Character and Intergovernmental Affairs.

Chairman of the Committee, Senator Onyesoh Allwel informed his colleagues that, the nominee responded intelligently and provided satisfactory answers to all questions asked. The nominee was confirmed after the consideration and adoption of the Committee’s report.

Meanwhile, the Senate passed a bill seeking to prohibit Nigerian athletes from consuming performance-enhancing substances during or after sporting competition. The bill was titled “National Anti-Doping Bill 2024.”

Senators adopted the recommendations of the committees on sports development, judiciary, human rights, and legal matters during plenary and approved that the Bill be read for a third time when it was put to a voice vote by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, who presided over the plenary.
